Asian action gets kicked up a notch with the aptly titled Born to Fight, from the makers of the international sensation Ong-Bak!
Fight choreographer Panna Rittikrai directed this high-octane actioner pitting a group of Olympic-caliber athletes versus a paramilitary gang of drug smugglers. After helping capture the villainous General Yang, city cop Daew (Chupong Changprung) travels with his Tae Kwan Do-practicing sister to a remote rural village. She and her fellow athletes are on a mercy mission, but soon the village is taken hostage by General Yang's evil gang. Their goal: General Yang's freedom. The threat: the slaughter of the entire village, plus a nuke capable of leveling Bangkok! With time running out, it's up to Daew and company to save the day.
Possessing loads of creative action, Born to Fight is a worth successor to the peerless action spectacle of Ong-Bak. The good guys use whatever skills they have on hand - gymnastics, Tae Kwan Do, football (soccer) skills, Muay Thai - to entertainingly dispense righteous punishment. Even more punishing is the stuntwork, which probably amounted to an insurance nightmare for the filmmakers. People get hit with flaming logs, flung off speeding motorcycles, and knocked off runaway trucks with realistic-looking impact and cinematic flair. For sick stuntwork and over-the-top action thrills, Born to Fight is tough to beat!
